WRJ-Temple Israel Sisterhood supports a myriad of projects that serve our congregation, our community, and our national organization. Through your support of the Holland Bulb projects and the Judaica shop, WRJ-Sisterhood has been able to fund major improvements and projects for Temple Israel, Henry S. Jacobs Camp, and the Women of Reform Judaism.
OVER THE PAST DECADE, WE HAVE:
* Made a major commitment to Temple’s Gift for Generations Campaign
* Purchased chairs for the Ettelson-Wax Hall
* Helped build a kindergarten classroom
* Replaced the Temple telephone system
* Bought new playground equipment
* Added a handicap entrance to the Religious School
* Funded the Henry S. Jacobs Camp Education Building
* Supported the WRJ Torat Nashim project
FOR OUR CONGREGATIONAL FAMILY, WE:
* Operate the Judaica Shop
* Offer beautiful Holland Bulbs for sale for their homes and gifts
* Prepare and serve the Congregational Passover Seder
* Sponsor the Yom Kippur Break Fast
* Provide High Holy Day transportation
* Provide and subsidize High Holy Day child care
* Fund the Temple Library through the Library Fund
* Provide equipment for the Temple kitchen
* Sponsor Shabbat luncheons and the Shabbat morning Kiddush
* Sponsor special programs for the congregation
* Sponsor special Oneg Shabbats
* Provide Welcome Bags for new members
* Support the Temple Archives
* Present a robe to each new rabbi
* Beautify the Temple grounds
* Prepare hundreds of meals, cookies, and snacks on Mitzvah Day
* Provide appreciation luncheons for the Temple staff
FOR OUR YOUTH, WE:
* Provide Passover Seder for the Religious School
* Provide Latkes for the Religious School
* Provide Dinner for the Religious School
* Fund scholarships for Jacobs campers
* Present Kindergarten Consecration gifts
* Provide the opportunity to send Consecration YES FUND Cards
* Present Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts
* Present Confirmation and Graduation gifts
* Provide scholarships and support for New York and Washington Trips
* Provide the opportunity to send Confirmation/Graduation YES FUND Cards
* Fund MeFTY advisors’ travel and MefTY kids to NFTY Conventions
* Keep in touch with Temple Young Adults with a directory and gifts
FOR OUR LOCAL AND WORLDWIDE COMMUNITY, WE:
* Prepare and deliver monthly meals for Estival Place
* Provide field trips and lunches for the summer camp of our Adopt-a-School, Colonial Visually Limited Center
* Provide gifts to servicemen during Chanukah and Passover
* Provide Birthday Party at the Memphis Jewish Home
* Fill special needs for Memphis Jewish Home and Plough Towers
* Help provide scholarships for rabbinic, cantorial, and Jewish education students through the YES Fund
* Support Jacobs Camp “Friends”
* Support Jewish Braille Institute through our Service to the Blind Fund
* Support Memphis Hillel
* Support MAZON, the Jewish Response to Hunger
* Support Memphis Family Shelter through profits of Consecration cards
* Support MIFA Food Pantry
* Support Women of Achievement
* Support Women of Reform Judaism National projects
* Support World Union for Progressive Judaism
FOR OURSELVES, WE :
* Organize two monthly book groups
* Hold monthly Rosh Chodesh services
* Host a Women’s Seder
* Host a Women’s Saturday Shabbat Service and Kiddush
* Expand our Jewish literacy
* Sponsor programs for women with different life-styles, interests, and needs
* Enjoy the active camaraderie of other Jewish women
* Worship together
* Serve our Temple and community
* Make new friends and HAVE FUN! |
